The Dely Project is a cross-continental collaboration connecting youth theatre artists from around the globe. It joins members of Tricklock’s summer internship The Manoa Project with theatre students from the University of New Mexico to forge relationships internationally with artistic peers from outside of the United States. In this, the project’s inaugural year, our partner cohort is a team of performers from the Ndere Cultural Center in Kampala, Uganda. Directed by Juli Hendren and Katy Houska (Juli in Uganda and Katy in Albuquerque) alongside creative designers Dahveed Torres and Aaron Hendren, the process utilizes media such as WhatsApp, video, music, and long distance writing while working remotely. The two teams then come together in Albuquerque for 16 hours to weave that work together in an original theatre piece about culture, kinship, and humanity.

The Dely Project amplifies young voices from around the world to find what connects us.

The Dely Project was created in 2019 in loving memory of Dr. Adélamar (Dely) Alcántara. Dely was a brilliant educator, community leader, and global citizen. She was also mother to our internship’s namesake, Manoa Jojola, and therefore, in a sense, mother to our whole education program. The Dely Project ensemble strives to carry her legacy through international learning and creation.
