Excavations: New Works Series

As Tricklock’s signature new works series, Excavations is a chance for audience members to take a sneak peek at what the company is creating, what ensemble members are ruminating on, and ideas echoing through our artistic community.

Music For Houseplants is a work-in-progress that finds music in the mundane. Speculative, boisterous, and living in the perfect balance of over and underwhelming, audiences sit in harmony with what grows, what promotes growth, and what to do with abundance. Conceived by Kyle Wayne Ruggles (Musical Director, Field Dressing, REVOLT. SHE SAID. REVOLT AGAIN.) and featuring an extended ensemble cast, this is a first iteration not to be missed.

Movement for Mercy is a collaborative endeavor combining the efforts of artists, activists, policy makers, and system-impacted youth who together dissect and articulate the realities of youth imprisonment in our local and global communities, with an eye on using the arts a change-maker for the trajectory of our juvenile justice systems.  Dance, theater, music, poetry, and visual arts are woven together, crafted collaboratively by the participants in a modular format that can be performed in pieces or as a full-length production. Project artists include current and formerly incarcerated youth joined by professional artists/educators, who create and perform both inside and outside the prison walls.

Sharp, fun, funny, and full of quiet magic, this is a reading of new work-in-progress: A girl who keeps falling into the snow. A boy who communes with saguaro. Someone who desperately wants you to notice them doing the dishes. Dream interpretations and analysis of seeing different types of fish. A desperate need to stray from ambiguity.
