About CityBeats Albuquerque:
The World Premiere of a unique city and site-specific event, CityBeats Albuquerque is a collaboration between a company known as Futur3 from Cologne, Germany and Tricklock Company, developed during a three-week residency. The performance will only exist here in Albuquerque, and belong to Albuquerque as an artistic response to our city, our heritage and our collective culture. The project theatrically investigates urban culture by creating city-specific, site-specific performances in collaboration with the citizens and artists of a given community. Performed in many European communities since 2004, CityBeats takes place where the beat is: in the city, not in the theater. To be close to the subject, the performance takes place in urban spaces. An office building, a supermarket, a bus or a bar can be “stages” to create a more intensive experience for the audience - and every scene is created only in connection to the specific space.
CityBeats listens to the beat of our city – and through interviews conducted with members of our city’s population and investigation of topics important to our people such as culture-collisions in the southwest, immigration, our economy, etc., the artists of Tricklock Company and Future3 will present unique site-specific performances endeavoring to bring out some of the voices of our streets, our city. Citybeats brings together two cultures (US & Germany) that until little more than a decade ago lived with possibly the most famous “wall” between them in Berlin after World War II, and promises to stir the heart and the mind with ideas and hopes for the power of mutual understanding.
