Tricklock Company (2008 Winner of Best Live Theater Company, “Best Of Burque”) announces the New Mexico Premiere of Cowboys Are My Weakness, a sensually wild ride adapted from the critically-acclaimed novel by Pam Houston. Cowboys… is a collection of strong, shrewd, and very funny stories, in which we meet smart women who are looking for the love of a good man, and men who are wild and hard to pin down.

"I've always had this thing for cowboys, maybe because I was born in New Jersey. But a real cowboy is hard to find these days, even in the West."

Our heroines are part daredevil, part philosopher, all acute observers of the nuances of modern romance. They go where their cowboys go, they meet cowboys who don't look the part — and they have staunch friends who give them advice when the going gets rough. Cowboys Are My Weakness is a refreshing and realistic look at men and women—together and apart.

"A collection of smart, surefooted stories, full of humor, intelligence and a kind of steely-eyed wonder....These are the stories that might have emerged had an intelligent woman followed Hemingway around."
—San Francisco Chronicle

About the Author...
Pam Houston attained critical and popular success with the 1992 publication of her first short-story collection, Cowboys Are My Weakness. The volume garnered its author not only impressive sales and reviews but also media attention in the form of magazine profiles, interviews, and several talk-show appearances, suggesting that her stories of adventurous women rafting through white-water rapids, guiding Dall sheep hunters in Alaska, and attempting to establish relationships with men of the American West tapped a little-explored but ripe territory in contemporary consciousness. Cowboys Are My Weakness was named a New York Times Notable Book in 1992, won the 1993 Western States Book Award, and was later translated into at least nine languages. A review in The New York Times (15 July 1992) stated, "Her collection of short stories is an odyssey of a young woman who develops a habit of bad love and uses adventure both to recover and carve a place for herself in the American West."

Cowboys… was conceived, adapted and originally directed by Book-It Repertory Theater’s Co-Artistic Director, Myra Platt. In the unique Book-It style that preserves the narrative text as it is spoken, not by a single “narrator” but as dialogue by the characters in the production, actors perform the text as written by the novel’s author, bringing an exciting, one-of-a-kind voice to the live stage. The world premiere production of Cowboys Are My Weakness, by Pam Houston, and adapted by Myra Platt, was commissioned and originally produced by Book-It Repertory Theatre, Seattle, WA. It is produced with permission.

About Book-It Repertory Theater...

Book-It Repertory Theatre is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming great literature into great theatre through simple and sensitive production and to inspiring its audiences to read.

Book-It Repertory Theatre was founded by a group of theatre artists who loved to read. Recognizing the immense wealth of story, character and language that exists in classic and contemporary literature, these artists wanted to create opportunities for audiences and fellow artists to experience theatre through imaginative stagings of written narrative. By creating theatre exclusively from literature, Book-It strives to bring theatre back to its roots—storytelling. From its early beginnings as a collective of artists experimenting in a workshop setting, to its current day as one of Seattle's most thriving, unique theatres with over 1,800 subscribers, Book-It's main purpose has been and still is to bring literature to life on stage, and inspire people to read.
