Elsa Menendez is back in prison….teaching that is! Three times a month Elsa spends 2 days teaching theatre and work creation at the New Mexico State Penitentiary. In addition to working with an enthusiastic group of 15 men she is also leading monthly workshops with the men and their children in creative expression. It’s been a blast and a short performance is in the works for sometime this fall.
(She is also learning to play ukulele, fly fish and safely land a small plane in case of emergency. What comes of this combination of skills, only Elsa knows….)
For the month of July 2007 Casey Mraz studied dramatic writing in a literary arts program at Charles University in Prague. Charles University is the oldest university in Central Europe, founded by Charles IV in 1348. The program was sponsored by Western Michigan University. In addition, while in Prague, Casey also took courses in Czech and attended lectures and workshops in Czech literature, drama, history and culture.
